In a dramatic turn of events, the Madras High Court has restrained TVK MLA R Srinivasa Sethupathi from participating in any voting, including the anticipated confidence motion in the legislative assembly.

This comes in response to a petition by DMK candidate K R Periyakaruppan, who narrowly lost to Sethupathi by just one vote in the recent elections for the Tirupattur assembly constituency. The restraint order was issued by a vacation bench of Justices L Victoria Gowri and N Senthilkumar.

The ruling poses uncertainty for the TVK government, led by C Joseph Vijay, which is set for a crucial floor test. Periyakaruppan's petition seeks a recount and aims to prevent Sethupathi from taking his oath as an MLA, pending the court's final decision.
