The decision follows requests from several EU member states and reflects ongoing challenges stemming from unrecognized diplomatic relations with the Taliban. This planned meeting signifies the first official Brussels visit of Taliban officials post their takeover of Afghanistan five years ago.

While EU officials previously visited Kabul in January, the Brussels meeting will be crucial in addressing asylum concerns, given the rising number of Afghans seeking refuge in the EU after the Taliban resurgence. Sweden is assisting in coordinating the event, though they have not commented on the matter yet.
