Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay made a significant move on Tuesday by ordering the closure of 717 state-run retail liquor outlets, including those near places of worship. While the decision was seen as a public relations stunt by the DMK, the PMK, advocating for prohibition, supported the initiative and urged for a gradual implementation of a dry state.

In a direct communication with the Central government, Vijay brought up the issue of the arrest of Indian fishermen by the Sri Lankan navy, seeking prompt action for their release and the return of confiscated boats. He called upon External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to engage Sri Lanka diplomatically to ensure the safety of the detained individuals.

Furthermore, demonstrating concern for public welfare, Vijay's party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, banned party banners in public spaces to prevent obstruction and inconvenience. This decision reflects his dedication to addressing local issues and enhancing civic responsibility among his party's members.
