The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has approached the Supreme Court to challenge a Madras High Court decision preventing MLA Srinivasa Sethupathi from participating in an Assembly confidence vote. Allegations of irregularities during the Tirupattur constituency election underpin the case, which has escalated to India's highest court.

Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, has escalated a legal battle to the Supreme Court following a Madras High Court interim order. The order, recently challenged by TVK, has barred their MLA, Srinivasa Sethupathi, from taking part in an assembly confidence vote due to alleged voting irregularities.

The controversy stemmed from a petition filed by former DMK minister Periyakaruppan over Sethupathi's narrow election win in the Tirupattur constituency, attributed to alleged mishandling of postal ballots. Periyakaruppan claimed irregularities in postal ballot handling and sought legal interventions barring Sethupathi from assuming his MLA role.

Senior Advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi presented TVK's plea to Chief Justice Surya Kant's bench, underscoring significant flaws in the high court order. The ongoing issue raises critical questions about electoral transparency, as the Election Commission insists no postal ballots were wrongly transferred. A Supreme Court hearing is set for tomorrow.
