In a landmark ruling, a local court sentenced three family members to life in prison for the 2017 murder of a young couple, Ajit Gond and Khushboo Rai, who were killed in Jethwar village over their relationship.

Prosecutors argued that the couple's romance faced opposition from Khushboo's family, leading to their tragic deaths at the hands of her brother, mother, and sister. The case was filed by Shail Devi, Ajit's mother, resulting in charges under the Indian Penal Code and the SC/ST Act.

On Tuesday, Special Judge Pramod Gangwar convicted Prince Rai, his mother Nirmala Rai, and sister Pinki Rai, sentencing them to life imprisonment and a hefty fine. Meanwhile, others implicated were acquitted due to insufficient evidence, the police reported.
