The Calcutta High Court on Thursday issued a directive to the West Bengal government to enforce strict law and order measures. This comes in response to allegations from the Trinamool Congress regarding widespread violence in the aftermath of the assembly polls.
The court instructed the state police to protect absconded individuals who fear returning home due to potential retribution. This order spans across partisan lines, ensuring that political affiliations do not hinder security and safety measures.
The interim order follows a writ petition highlighting violence against TMC workers and party offices. TMC leader Mamata Banerjee appeared in court, emphasizing the need for urgent action to safeguard the state's citizens amidst claimed lawlessness.
