Chaotic scenes unfolded at the Calcutta High Court as former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee faced derogatory 'thief' slogans from certain lawyers on Thursday afternoon. The incident occurred when Banerjee, accompanied by TMC advocate Kalyan Banerjee, was attempting to exit after a hearing related to post-poll violence.
Kalyan Banerjee alleged that the disruptive lawyers were acting under the influence of the BJP, making it difficult for the party's legal team to ensure her safety during the exit. He criticized the inappropriate use of the court as a platform for such public slander, highlighting the challenges TMC workers face across Bengal.
The former CM, alongside former minister Chandrima Bhattacharya, was in court regarding a case implicating alleged violence against TMC members and offices post-2026 assembly polls. The public interest litigation, filed by advocate Shirshanya Bandyopadhyay, contends widespread attacks on TMC affiliates post-polls. The case was heard by Chief Justice Sujoy Paul and Justice Parthasarathi Sen.
