An employee of the Odisha Education Department has been apprehended on charges of embezzling government funds, according to local authorities. An investigation revealed significant discrepancies in salary disbursement records from December 31, 2018, to October 16, 2021.
The suspect, assigned to the accounts section of the District Education Officer in Cuttack, was responsible for the management of the Human Resource Management System and Integrated Financial Management System. Utilizing fraudulent credentials, he diverted government funds intended for salaries, officials reported.
The Vigilance Department disclosed that the accused illicitly transferred Rs 51.53 lakh into his own bank account. An extensive investigation into the theft is currently in progress, the officials have confirmed.
