The investigation unraveled that the crime stemmed from a thwarted extortion plan, leading to the arrest of a nurse named Mehjabin Sheikh and her brother. Khan's call records, analyzed post-murder, suggested his final location matched where Sheikh was present, indicating their connection in the crime.

The incident unfolded after Khan disappeared on April 3 on his way to collect a payment in Dadar, Mumbai. Following investigative leads, police determined that financial disputes and personal relationships played pivotal roles in the murder.
