Ensuring Food Security and Quality in Arunachal Pradesh

The Chairman of the Arunachal Pradesh State Food Commission, Tarh Tarak, emphasized the importance of improving food distribution quality and raising public awareness of welfare entitlements during a meeting on the National Food Security Act's implementation in Ziro, Lower Subansiri district.
Tarak called for establishing a food testing laboratory to ensure food quality for government schemes, noting that food security must extend beyond mere availability. The meeting reviewed the functionality of local FCI godowns and addressed issues with electronic point of sale machines.
Officials were directed to improve outreach activities to inform eligible households of their entitlements, stressing that transparency and accountability measures should not impede beneficiaries. Discussions also covered efforts to overcome funding and logistical challenges in welfare programs for the region's vulnerable populations.
