The Meghalaya government has launched an online registration system aimed at students and workers from the state residing abroad. This initiative, as reported by officials on Monday, seeks to craft a central database facilitating quicker assistance and repatriation during emergencies.
The notification from the home (political) department requests those residing temporarily abroad to register voluntarily via the meghalayaone.gov.in portal. The motivation behind this move stems from previous challenges in emergency situations involving stranded residents.
Officials highlighted the absence of a central tracking system as a major obstacle in assisting citizens during crises like wars or civil unrest abroad. The envisioned database aims to streamline emergency response, ensuring effective coordination and timely repatriation of affected citizens.
