Woman killed, daughter critical in attack by former tenant in Rajasthan’s Baran

A 45-year-old woman was killed and her 17-year-old daughter critically injured after their former tenant attacked the mother-daughter duo at Anta in Baran district, police said on Friday.
The accused has been on the run since the incident on Thursday night, and efforts are underway to trace and arrest him, they said, adding that the injured girl was being treated at a hospital in Kota where her condition is stated to be critical.
According to Anta circle DSP Pushendra Singh Hada, Prembai (45) and her 17-year-old daughter went for a walk after dinner on Thursday night when the accused attacked them with a knife before fleeing from the scene.
Both were rushed to a local hospital, which referred them to a higher facility in Kota as their wounds were serious, the DSP said.
Prembai succumbed to her injuries during treatment late on Thursday night, he said.
The accused has been identified as Gopal Meghwal, a daily wager who was a tenant at the victims' house, which he vacated a few months ago, the officer said.
The motive behind the attack is not clear yet, he said.
