Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has accused the Congress party of adopting an anti-women stance after their walkout from the Assembly during a discussion on a government resolution supporting 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state legislatures.

Sarma alleged that Congress, under instructions from its central leadership, avoided the resolution, choosing instead to capitulate to the anti-women policies of allies like the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

Despite dissent from Congress members, the resolution moved by Women and Child Welfare Minister Ajanta Neog was successfully adopted by a voice vote, establishing a path forward for women's empowerment and broader representation in Indian politics.
