In a significant cybercrime case, Delhi Police have arrested three individuals, including a caretaker, who allegedly orchestrated a Rs 9.58 lakh fraud by misusing credit card information to purchase gold coins. Krishna Gupta, from Madhuban Enclave in east Delhi, notified authorities about unauthorized transactions on his card.
Following the complaint, an investigation was launched on May 14. Police scrutinized transaction logs, CCTV recordings, and jewellery purchases in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, which eventually led to the detention of Nishant Kumar, his brother Nikil Kumar, and Yash Sharma, all hailing from Gokalpuri in northeast Delhi.
Authorities revealed that Nishant, serving as a caretaker to the victim, gained illicit access to the credit card details and collaborated with his brother and an accomplice to buy gold coins fraudulently. Nikil facilitated their activities, while Yash posed as the cardholder in Najafgarh and Meerut shops.
The investigation has so far recovered four out of five gold coins, weighing 50 grams. Efforts continue to identify additional collaborators and recoup the remainder of the illicit gains.
