Supreme Court Declines to Consider Former Tribunal Member's Petition on Practice Restrictions

The Supreme Court has rejected a petition by Vijai Pratap Singh challenging rules preventing former tribunal members from practicing before the National Company Law Tribunal and NCLAT, citing judicial independence. Singh argued for a cooling-off period instead. The plea was withdrawn.

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court dismissed a plea by Vijai Pratap Singh, a former technical member of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal, who challenged rules barring ex-members from practicing before the Tribunal and Appellate Tribunal.

The bench, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant, emphasized the necessity of judicial independence. "Imagine if you appear before someone who was your colleague," the bench remarked. The court's stance prompted Singh to withdraw his petition, leaving the rule intact.
