The Government of India has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating development across the North Eastern Region, with Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse conducting a high-level district review visit to Williamnagar in Meghalaya's East Garo Hills under the Poorvottar Sampark Setu initiative.
The visit formed part of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region's (MDoNER) broader strategy to strengthen coordination between the Centre and states while ensuring that development programmes are effectively reaching communities at the grassroots level.
Through the initiative, Union Ministers regularly visit districts across the Northeast to assess infrastructure projects, monitor implementation of central schemes, engage with local administrations, and better understand region-specific developmental priorities.

A major focus of Raksha Khadse's visit was the assessment of sports infrastructure and youth development projects in the district.
The Minister inspected the Artificial Football Turf at the RGHSS Playground in Williamnagar, reviewing efforts aimed at expanding access to modern sporting facilities and encouraging greater youth participation in sports.
She also reviewed progress on the Khelo India Multipurpose Indoor Hall at Tambo A'ding, which is currently under construction.
The facility is expected to strengthen sports training opportunities in the region and support the development of young athletes from Meghalaya and surrounding northeastern states.

She added that initiatives such as Poorvottar Sampark Setu are helping the Government maintain closer engagement with local communities and district administrations to better understand regional needs.
The Minister expressed satisfaction with progress being made in sports development and local livelihood programmes.
"I am encouraged to see the progress being made in strengthening sports infrastructure, promoting sustainable livelihoods through fisheries and animal husbandry, and preserving the rich handicraft traditions of East Garo Hills," she said.
