In a recent decision, the Uttarakhand High Court permitted the Muslim community to hold Eid prayers at the District Sports Association ground in Nainital for one hour on Thursday. The interim order, issued by a division bench including judges Manoj Kumar Gupta and Subhash Upadhyay, addressed a petition from Anjuman Islamia.
The judgement clarified the previously uncertain status of the prayer venue. Initial permissions from the Nainital Gymkhana and the District Sports Association were rescinded, citing the ground's purpose for sports events only. As a result, Anjuman Islamia approached the court for resolution. Concurrently, district authorities are arranging security and traffic measures to maintain peace during the event.
