Tensions escalate as Russian troops claim control over villages in Ukraine's Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia regions. Tug of War: Disputed Claims in Ukraine's War Zones

In the ongoing conflict, Russian troops assert they've captured villages in Ukraine's Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia regions. As these claims emerged on Wednesday, Ukraine's military and the country's leading military blog voiced strong skepticism about the Russian Defence Ministry's announcement.

According to the Russian statement, forces have taken over Hraniv in the Kharkiv region, which lies on the border with Russia, and Vozdvyzhivka in Zaporizhzhia's contested zone. Contrarily, Ukraine's 14th Army firmly refutes these assertions, maintaining they control Hraniv and are effectively defending against enemy advances.

Adding to the rebuttal, the Ukrainian war blog, DeepState, also negates the capture of Vozdvyzhivka, stating that Russian forces only briefly entered before being repelled. In a broader context, while Russia seeks to expand influence in eastern Ukraine as the conflict drags on, there's growing evidence that their advancements have faced significant resistance.
