Dhaval Amratbhai Patel, an Indian who unlawfully entered the United States, was taken into custody after being accused of assaulting someone with a baseball bat. The incident occurred during an altercation with a customer at a liquor store in Worcester, Massachusetts, where Patel was employed.

Following his initial arrest on May 16, local police charged Patel with assault and battery using a dangerous weapon. Despite these charges, sanctuary laws meant he was released without notifying federal immigration authorities. However, on May 18, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement apprehended him, underscoring tensions between local and federal law enforcement regarding immigration policies.
