Kuwaiti forces intercepted missiles launched by Iran late Wednesday, an assault the US military described as a significant breach of the recently established ceasefire. The attack targeted one of the US's key allies in the Persian Gulf, exacerbating tensions that have simmered since the ceasefire was negotiated last month.

Kuwait had reported the attack on its territory shortly before Iran announced its retaliation, citing earlier strikes by the US. The US military had previously targeted Iranian missile sites, boats, and drones, which they considered threats in the sensitive region of the Strait of Hormuz.
