The upcoming census in West Bengal has been slated to begin in August and will proceed until the end of February next year, with Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari confirming the timeline on Friday.
Adhikari assured citizens the census is politically neutral and vital for precise governance and planning. Although West Bengal is lagging, he praised India's progress in census activities.
Addressing potential demographic alterations in certain areas, he pointed to cross-border infiltration due to lax border security with Bangladesh. "The lack of fencing facilitated demographic shifts," he stated, underscoring the importance of the headcount.
He concluded by encouraging citizens' participation, highlighting its role in decision-making at a meeting in Nabanna on the initial phase of the 2027 Census of India.
