Jharkhand Police have successfully captured a top figure from the banned People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI), a faction derived from Maoist movements, who was sought with a Rs 10 lakh reward. The operation took place Thursday after intelligence indicated the presence of Amrit Horo, alongside associates, in the Mahugaon forest within Ranchi district.

Following a strategic operation by the Quick Response Team and police officers, Horo was apprehended, marking a pivotal moment in efforts to curb PLFI activities, according to Ranchi SSP Rakesh Ranjan. Horo faces at least 50 pending criminal cases across numerous districts, highlighting his significance in the group's hierarchy. Items including an automatic pistol, ammunition, and PLFI propaganda were found on him.

The arrest occurs after previous leadership disruptions in the group, such as the capture of Dinesh Gope and the demise of Martin Kerketta, underlining the ongoing police pressure on the PLFI. The interrogation of Horo aims to dismantle the remnants of the organization by identifying and capturing other affiliates. Recent months also saw the voluntary surrender of 27 Maoists in Ranchi, enhancing the security forces' efforts to destabilize Maoist-aligned factions in the region.
