An Assamese migrant worker lost his life after being assaulted by an alleged mob in Tamil Nadu's Thiruvallur district. The attack followed accusations that he misbehaved with a woman.
The victim, Prosenjit Das, along with six others from Assam, had come to Thiruvallur seeking work. Allegedly intoxicated, Das asked a local woman for water, but then reportedly began damaging her windows with a knife when she retreated indoors. Called to the scene, the woman's relatives and locals are said to have beaten Das, who later passed away from his injuries.
Authorities are probing the incident, with a case now registered to delve deeper into the circumstances leading to the worker's death.
