In Paris, celebrations of PSG's recent Champions League win turned chaotic as law enforcement detained dozens of individuals. Supporters filled the streets after PSG's dramatic victory over Arsenal. The jubilant atmosphere escalated into unrest, with attempts made to breach a police station.
Many took to the famous avenues near the Arc de Triomphe, igniting flares and honking car horns. Eventually, about 20,000 fans congregated on the Champs-Elysees, prompting police intervention to manage the assembly. Isolated groups engaged in vandalizing stores, igniting fires, and even torching vehicles. Authorities noted one officer suffered injuries during the festivities.
Efforts to raid a police station in the 8th Arrondissement were thwarted, according to the police. By late evening, 45 people had been apprehended, while disruptions occurred on the city's main ring road. Additionally, local businesses in the 16th Arrondissement suffered damage as officers controlled nearby groups.
The city's preparations, involving 8,000 officers, reflect the previous year's incidents following PSG's inaugural title, which led to numerous injuries and extensive arrests.
