Camp East Montana: Mismanaged Millions and Injustice in Immigration Detention
A report from the Government Accountability Office reveals severe oversight issues at the Camp East Montana detention center in Texas. The facility, constructed under the Trump administration, failed to properly report incidents, withheld medicine from sick detainees, and squandered taxpayer money through hasty contracts.
A recent report by the Government Accountability Office has disclosed alarming oversight and management failures at the Camp East Montana immigration detention center in Texas. The facility, notably constructed during the Trump administration, neglected to file necessary use-of-force reports and delayed medical care for critically ill detainees.
The detention center, established rapidly in August 2025 at the Fort Bliss military base, was contracted to Acquisition Logistics LLC, a firm lacking previous detention experience. The report also questions the handling of two deaths at the center in January 2026, citing missing or destroyed evidence in a homicide case and inadequate monitoring in a suicide case.
Medical officials visiting the site in December 2025 discovered widespread neglect, with many detainees suffering from chronic illnesses like diabetes and HIV left untreated. Despite multiple requests, ICE and Acquisition Logistics have not yet commented on the findings. The facility's contract was transferred to Amentum Services Inc. in March 2026.
