China's foreign ministry confirmed the arrest of U Min Zin, a U.S. citizen, on charges of espionage and compromising national security. The U.S. consulate in Guangzhou has been informed of the arrest, following reports of his disappearance in Kunming last week.
China's foreign ministry confirmed on Friday the arrest of U Min Zin, a U.S. citizen, who is suspected of spying and endangering Chinese national security.
A ministry spokesperson revealed that the U.S. consulate general in Guangzhou had been notified of the arrest, following his recent disappearance in Kunming.
This development comes in light of a New York Times report that highlighted U Min Zin's disappearance in southwest China last week.
