Lottery Vendor's Deception Unveiled: A Tale of Betrayal
A court in A Coruña, Spain, sentenced a lottery vendor to over three years in prison for cheating a €4.7 million winner out of their prize in 2012. The vendor tried to claim the winnings himself, but the prize was awarded to the true winner's heirs.
In a striking case of deception, a lottery vendor in Spain has been sentenced to three-and-a-half years in prison for defrauding a customer of a €4.7 million jackpot. The court in A Coruña revealed that the vendor deliberately misled the winner, falsely claiming none of the customer's numbers were winners.
The vendor then attempted to claim the jackpot himself, asserting he stumbled upon the winning ticket in his shop. Despite his persistent efforts over eight years, the prize never left the custody of the local lottery administration, which sought to identify its rightful owner.
Sadly, the actual winner passed away in 2014, but the court has decreed that his heirs receive the full amount. This judgment, finding the vendor guilty of aggravated fraud, remains open to appeal in Spain's Supreme Court.
