A major boost to Bihar's industrial and skill development landscape was announced on Monday as Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Shri Jitan Ram Manjhi and Bihar Chief Minister Shri Samrat Choudhary laid the foundation stone for a new Technology Centre at Khizarsarai in Gaya district.
The project, being developed with an investment of ₹170 crore, is expected to strengthen the MSME ecosystem in southern Bihar while creating new opportunities for skill development, employment and industrial growth.
Centre to Support Thousands of Youth and Businesses
The ceremony began with a traditional Bhoomi Pujan, marking the formal start of construction. Senior officials from the Ministry of MSME, representatives of the Bihar government, industry stakeholders and local leaders attended the event.
Addressing the gathering, Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi said the Technology Centre would serve not only Bihar but also neighbouring states by providing advanced technology support and industry-oriented training. He noted that the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of establishing technology-driven centres across the country to strengthen manufacturing and entrepreneurship.
The Minister said the centre is expected to train around 7,000 people every year, helping young individuals acquire industry-relevant skills and improving their employment prospects.
Focus on Engineering and Textile Industries
The upcoming facility will be built with approximately ₹86 crore allocated for civil infrastructure and ₹84 crore for advanced machinery and equipment. The centre will focus on key sectors including General Engineering, Heavy Engineering and Textile Testing.
Once operational, it will offer technological support, testing services, tooling facilities and job work assistance to more than 1,000 MSMEs annually. Businesses from Gaya, Aurangabad, Nawada, Nalanda, Jehanabad and Munger districts are expected to benefit from the services.
Officials said the centre will help local enterprises improve productivity, adopt modern technologies and enhance their competitiveness in domestic as well as international markets.
Catalyst for Industrial Growth in Southern Bihar
Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary described the project as a matter of pride for Bihar and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for supporting the expansion of Technology Centres across the country. He said the facility would play a transformative role in generating employment and building a skilled workforce.
Highlighting the importance of the MSME sector, he said small businesses are creating significant job opportunities and contributing to India's journey towards self-reliance. According to him, Bihar is at a stage where focused efforts in technology, innovation and skill development can accelerate economic transformation.
MSME Secretary Bharat Khera noted that the Ministry is expanding its network of Technology Centres and Extension Centres nationwide. He pointed out that after the recent inauguration of a Technology Centre in Patna, the Gaya facility marks another important step in strengthening industrial infrastructure in Bihar.
The Technology Centre is expected to become a key driver of industrial development in the historic Magadh region, helping local businesses bridge technology gaps, integrate into global supply chains and contribute to long-term economic growth.
