Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has said that Jain monks and saints are playing a significant role in transforming society across India and around the world through the teachings and principles of Jain philosophy.

He made the remarks while addressing the Acharya Padarohan (enthronement) ceremony of Param Pujya Acharya Shri Vinay Kushal Ji Maharaj. The event was attended by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly Speaker Dr Raman Singh, Union Minister Tokhan Sahu, Member of Parliament Brijmohan Agrawal and other dignitaries.

Birla said Jain philosophy continues to offer meaningful guidance in a world facing growing levels of stress, anxiety, conflict and declining moral standards. According to him, its teachings provide a path towards inner peace, self-discipline and ethical living.

Teachings of Lord Mahavira Remain Relevant Today

Highlighting the foundations of Jain philosophy, Birla said true happiness cannot be achieved through material wealth alone. He noted that lasting contentment comes from self-control, disciplined thinking, moral conduct and mastery over one's desires.

He said the teachings of Lord Mahavira, particularly those centred on non-violence, compassion and restraint, remain highly relevant in modern society. These values, he explained, have the power to address many of the challenges confronting communities across the world.

Birla stressed that global peace can only be built through the practice of ahimsa, kindness and compassion toward all living beings. He commended Jain saints for dedicating their lives to promoting truth, empathy and spiritual awareness while helping to shape a morally responsible society.

Saints Inspire Through Discipline and Sacrifice

The Lok Sabha Speaker also paid tribute to the dedication and spiritual discipline demonstrated by Jain saints. He referred to the rigorous practices undertaken by monks, including extended periods of fasting and intense meditation, describing them as powerful examples of self-mastery and inner strength.

Birla highlighted the achievements of a young Bal Muni whose spiritual discipline and commitment to learning had drawn admiration. He said such accomplishments show that concentration, knowledge and penance can lead to remarkable personal growth, even at a young age.

According to Birla, the lives of Jain Acharyas and saints reflect values such as sacrifice, discipline and selfless service. Their example encourages individuals to cultivate patience, self-restraint and ethical conduct in everyday life.

He expressed confidence that future generations would continue to draw inspiration from the teachings and guidance of Jain saints, strengthening society's commitment to moral values and spiritual development.

Calling on people to embrace truth, compassion and self-discipline, Birla said these principles form the foundation of a peaceful and harmonious society. He added that the teachings of Lord Mahavira and Jain spiritual leaders remain a powerful source of guidance for building a more ethical and enlightened world.
