Ukraine extends 'special status' for conflict-hit regions

Ukraine's parliament passed a law on Thursday extending by one year a "special status" covering separatist-controlled eastern regions, a prerequisite for a deal to settle the five-year conflict there.
The law, which affects how local authorities work in the region, was adopted in 2014 and has been extended several times.
