Shimla, renowned as the 'Queen of Hills', is experiencing a substantial tourist influx, causing significant traffic disruptions. Approximately 6,31,000 vehicles reached the city in 24 days, with 70,000 arriving over just the last 72 hours. This wave of tourists seeks relief from the scorching heat in the plains.

The surge, compounded by the summer tourist season starting early, presents challenges to the city's traffic infrastructure. According to Abhishek, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, special measures like traffic zoning and volunteer enlistment aim to manage the increased vehicular load. Anticipating further arrivals, officials plan to boost police presence post-poll end by May's close.
