A deadly incident occurred early Friday in Hamirpur district, Uttar Pradesh, where a segment of an under-construction bridge over the Betwa river fell during a storm, killing six labourers and injuring three others. The collapse happened around 3 am between Parsani and Kandaur villages as multiple workers were sleeping on top of the collapsed slab.
Authorities, including Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, extended their sympathies and instructed officials to ensure proper medical assistance for the injured. The bridge construction, managed by a private firm for two years, had supposedly adhered to safety protocols. Weather warnings had been issued a day before the storm, alerting people to the potential hazards.
The state government promised financial aid of Rs 5 lakh for the bereaved families and Rs 50,000 for the injured. The district administration, alongside law enforcement, is conducting rescue operations, determining the clear path ahead to remove debris from the site.
