Sumitra Mahajan says she won't contest Lok Sabha election. Sumitra Mahajan is the 16th Speaker of the Lok Sabha In 2014, she got elected to the Lok Sabha for the eighth time, one of three members of the Lok Sabha to do so, and is currently the longest-serving woman member.
Sumitra Mahajan has represented the Indore constituency of Madhya Pradesh since 1989. On 6 June 2014, Mahajan was unanimously elected as the Speaker of the 16th Lok Sabha.
Mahajan, who turns 76 next week, said there had been speculations whether the party will field someone who has crossed the 75-year age bar.
"There were speculations and so I decided to end them and free the party to make its choice. I will not contest Lok Sabha elections," she told PTI from Indore.
