Caustic pond collapse: Jharkhand govt orders probe, no information on casualty

The embankment of a caustic pond of a private company on Tuesday collapsed at Mauri, about 55 km from here, a senior state government official said. "The bund (embankment) of the caustic pond of Hindalco company slid, like a land-slide," the official said, adding that the state government has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Asked whether there was any casualty following the incident, the official said, "There is no information as yet." A team of NDRF, Ranchi, has been sent to the spot for rescue efforts. Meanwhile, on the direction of Chief Minister Raghubar Das the chief secretary D K Tiwari asked Chhotanagarpur Divisional Commissioner Subhra Verma to probe into the incident and submit the report to the government, an official release said. The chief secretary was also asked to ensure the people in the nearby areas should not face any difficulties, it added.
