Delhi Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested one bootlegger and seized 39 cartons containing 1,872 quarters of illicit liquor. Police have also seized one Maruti Ritz car which was being used for transporting the illicit liquor.

Sharing details of the arrest, police informed that a patrolling team noticed Maruti Ritz car, having a defective number plate moving towards foot over bridge, near the ISBT. "The vehicle was signalled to stop, but the driver accelerated his car. As there was a traffic jam, he could not flee and was successfully chased by the patrolling team," said the police.

When the driver was asked to produce the documents of the vehicle, he neither could produce the documents nor replied satisfactorily. During the search of the vehicle, 39 boxes of illicit liquor containing 1,872 quarters, for sale in Haryana only, were found inside the car, informed the police.

A case under Section 33/38 of Excise Act was registered at Kashmiri Gate police station. Further investigation is on.
