Man held for raping six-year-old girl

A six-year-old tribal girl was allegedly raped by her 22-year-old neighbour in Chhattisgarh's Korba district, police said Tuesday, adding that the accused has been arrested. The incident took place Monday evening in Kusmunda police station area of the district, a local police official said.

"The accused Jasbir alias Jassi gave a Rs 50 note to the girl who was playing in the locality for buying him a gutkha pouch and chocolates. He asked her to bring them to his house," the official said, adding that Jassi allegedly raped the girl when she reached his house. Parents of the girl approached the police after she shared her ordeal with them, he said.

An FIR was registered under sections 376 (Punishment for rape), 342 (wrongful confinement) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, he said. Jassi was arrested Monday itself.

Further investigation is underway.
