Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) POWERGRID is playing a major role in the quick restoration of power supply in parts of Odisha that was battered by the cyclone Fani on May 3. "We are using state-of-the-art techniques like ERS (Emergency Restoration System), swift operation management to restore power supply in affected areas," said a PSU official.

More than a thousand employees, from neighbouring states, have also been deputed to assist the state entities like Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL)and CESU (Central Electricity Supply Utility), said the official. Reportedly the strongest tropical cyclone to hit India in last 20 years, the cyclone on May 3 uprooted lakhs of electric poles, transformers and led to collapse of towers.

Puri, Kendarapada, Jagatsinghpur, and Bhubaneswar are some of the worst affected areas in the state. The Centre and the state government are working on war footing to restore normalcy in the state.
