Steps will be taken to set up a welfare board for journalists, Tamil Nadu Minister for Information and Publicity Kadambur Raju said Thursday. Announcing a panel to look into the matter, the Minister for Information and Publicity told the state assembly that it will be headed by Principal Secretary, Finance Department.
The panel will also comprise Secretary, Information department, Director of Information and Public Relations besides the Labour Commissioner. Appropriate steps will be taken to set up the welfare board after getting a report from the committee, which will look into aspects related to forming the board, he said.
The minister said any scheme, when initiated, should be implemented successfully. Only if a panel was set up, it could look into aspects like funding requirements and the kind of welfare measures that may be pursued and the whole plan can be implemented with ease.
"This is the reason for setting up the panel," he said. The move to set up a board comes following representation from MLAs, journalists and several bodies, he said and recalled concessions provided to them..
