Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Kiran Bedi on Sunday said the Union Territory has good scope to have a school for surfing to train children in the water sport. Bedi flagged off a `stand-up paddle rally organised at the beach here by the Kovalam-based Covelong Point Surfing School.
Speaking on the occasion, she said the children should be involved in sports activities, particularly those from the fishermen's families. The surfing sponsored by the T T Krishnamachary Group focused on the clean-up of the ocean from Puducherry to Kovalam beach covering a distance of 120 km.
Fifteen surfers, including two children, participated in the stand-up paddle rally. Bedi said a separate school for surfing could be started under the banner 'Puducherry Surfing School for Children' to prepare the children for participation in the national and international competitions.
She said she would coordinate with the Union Sports Ministry for support to open the school of surfing here.
