Over 400 TN temples to hold Independence Day feast Chennai, Aug 13 (PTI A total of 448 temples spread across Tamil Nadu will hold community feasts and special prayers on August 15, to commemorate the Independence day. Chief Minister K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam will take part in the feasts to be held at Sakthi Vinayagar and Marundeeswarar temples here.

Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker P Dhanapal and other state ministers will also take part in feasts in other shrines coming under the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department. Holding special prayers and community feasts in which people from all communities take part is a practice being held for years now as per a scheme of former Chief Minister, late J Jayalalithaa, according to an official release.

Inviting people to take part in the events, the HR and CE department said collectors and elected representatives will also participate and in Chennai alone, 33 temples are set to hold the feasts and prayers..
