Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Friday said the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) should play a role of facilitator and guide for other central ministries. The minister said other ministries and department can approach DoNER ministry for identifying the projects.

The DoNER should play a role of facilitator and guide for other central ministries, he said at a meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee for DoNER. Singh discussed the need to sensitise the ministries about the fund utilisation and said senior officers of the DoNER and the North Eastern Council have been appointed as nodal officers for each 'aspirational district' in addition to the officer in-charge.

The government provides high priority to the development of the Northeast, he said. During the meeting, it was informed that the budget estimate allocation for 2019-20 for the Northeastern states were under 10 per cent gross budgetary support which is Rs 59,369.90 crore

It was emphasised that the ministries should review the schemes from time to time and should fully utilise the allocated funds for the region in accordance with the laid down policy of the government.
