Two killed, 10 injured as taxi falls into gorge in U'khand

Two persons, including a woman, were killed and 10 injured when a taxi fell into a gorge on the Rishikesh-Gangotri national highway here today, police said.

The taxi, carrying 12 people, was on its way to Chamba from Chjinyalisaur in Uttarkashi district. It fell into a 150-meter-deep gorge near Bail gaon in Tehri district, killing the driver and a woman passenger on the spot, SSP Yogendra Singh Rawat said.

The deceased has been identified as 53-year-old Ram Singh Rana, who was driving the vehicle, and 40-year-old Leela Devi who hailed from Chinyalisaur, he said.

The injured were rushed to Baurari hospital, from where five were referred to AIIMS, Rishikesh, the police official said.
