Train services hit as asbestos sheets fall on rely power lines Tuticorin, Sept 11 (PTI) Train services were affected in Southern districts after powerlines of the railway electric traction system got snapped when asbestos sheets of a private building, which were blown off by strong winds, fell on them, officials said Tuesday.

The power supply on the traction was affected to a stretch of three km, they said. The incident occurred near Kovilpatti last night. Some trains were operated using a diesel engine.

However, most passengers had to stay put in trains for several hours. Officials said the power lines were temporarily repaired and the trains were operated at 30 km speed. Some trains, including Muthunagar express, Nellai express, Tiruchendur, and Ananthapuri express trains left after several hours of delay late last night. Officials said repairs would be completed in two days, adding that till then the trains would be operated at less than normal speed.
