Man killed in elephant attack in Odisha's Dhenkanal district

A 60-year-old man was Friday trampled to death by a wild elephant in Odisha's Dhenkanal district, police said.

The incident took place at Lodhani village under Mhabiroda forest range area when the man was on his way to his fruit garden. The jumbo reportedly lifted the man in the air with its trunk, threw him down and trampled him to death.

Sahu was rescued by the villagers and rushed to the hospital and died there, Dhenkanal district forest officer Sudarshan Patra said. The affected family has been provided with Rs 40,000 as financial assistance, he said.

The local people alleged that a herd of about 25 tuskers have been creating havoc in the nearby areas by destroying hundreds of acres of agricultural fields.
