Angola must focus on seed imports in partnership with Latin nations, says Carlos Alberto Jaime
The Secretary of State for Agriculture Carlos Alberto Jaime stressed on December 6 that the country needs to take advantage of the creation of the Angola-Hispanic American Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHACCI) to transfer its technologies and know-how to increase domestic production.
Carlos Alberto Jaime was speaking ahead of a proclamation of the aforementioned chamber on December 6 in Angola's capital city Luanda. He said Angola's partnership with Latin countries, in this first stage, should focus mainly on technology, labour and imports of seeds.
With regard to Argentina and Mexico, he said that Angola may take advantage of their vast experience in the production of soybeans and the investigation of corn.
In the field of maize research, he said that the country can focus on Mexico's know-how to meet its investment intentions previously expressed. In livestock, he suggested taking advantage of Uruguay.
The official put the country's yearly imports at more than 400,000 tons of rice and 600,000 tons of wheat flour, among others, adding that the imports can drop with the increase of domestic production.
