German Embassy in Angola plans to pump out fund for Tchokwe culture research

The German Embassy in Angola, through German Cultural Institute and the Cultural Heritage Foundation of Berlin, will invest in Tchokwe culture research. In order to attain this goal, the Germany and Angola will sign soon a memorandum of understanding.

The information was released by German ambassador to Angola, Dirk Lolke, on December 10 at the end of a few-hour working visit to the eastern Lunda Sul province.

The diplomat said that initiative marks the beginning of the cooperation in the anthropology branch, taking into account of existence of artefacts of the region in the Berlin Museum.

The German Embassy and the Culture Ministry sign a memorandum of understanding involving the German Cultural Institute and the Cultural Heritage Foundation in Berlin in the areas of research, exhibition, training and restoration of pieces.

The document will also allow the two countries address the issues related to academic training and the real study on the history of Tchokwe peoples.

The German diplomat also spoke of existing scientific links between both countries on Tchokwe culture research. According to him, the objective is to promote this connection and knowledge about these roots.

In turn, the provincial governor of Lunda Sul, Daniel Neto, acknowledged the Germany's interest in Angolan culture, stressing that in cooperation with Angolan historians the Germany will draw up various development programmes in the anthropological field.

As for the visit to Lunda Sul, he said that the ambassador's visit served to assess the reality of what they have registered in Germany on the Tchokwe culture.

For the same purpose, the delegation of Germany Embassy in Angola travelled to the neighbouring province of Lunda Norte on December 10 afternoon to visit the Anthropology Museum of Dundo.
