Ghana news: Gold Coast Refinery to complete jewellery manufacturing plant in 2 years

Known as the first gold refining company in Ghana, Gold Coast Refinery Limited has commenced working on a jewellery manufacturing plant, which is supposed to be completed in a span of two years. According to Sampson Nortey, MD of Gold Coast Refinery, processes already started with the Ghana Airports Company to acquire land for the manufacturing of the plant.
Once the plant is totally manufactured, it is likely to make use of raw materials from the main gold refinery plant of the company like silver, platinum and gold to manufacture jewellery, legal tender coins and other artefacts.
“The jewellery manufacturing plant that we want to set up is the second phase of our value addition drive so by the end of the first quarter of 2019, we will start constructing it after we have finalised discussions with the Ghana Airports Company Limited,” Sampson Nortey opined.
He further elaborated that the setup of upcoming jewellery manufacturing plant would include a jewellery gallery centre, showrooms and other components where fairs would be organised to the market the products.
Gold Coast Refinery Limited also seeks collaboration with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and Ghana Standards Authority to ensure that the proposed training school assists the students to get practical training in jewellery making.
