Madhubala-Google Doodle on 86th Birthday of The Venus of Indian Cinema
Google honours Indian film actress Madhubala with a beautiful doodle on her 86th birthday. Popularly known as The Venus of Indian Cinema, Madhubala is still compared with the Hollywood star Marilyn Monroe. That's why she is called as the Marilyn Monroe of Bollywood.
Madhubala first appeared on the screen in the movie Basant in 1942 when she was just 9 years old. After five years, her acting career started rising mainly when she made her debut with Raj Kapoor at the age of 14 with the movie Neel Kamal. Madhubala also received the only nomination for a Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her superb performance in Mughal-e-Azam in 1960.
The birthday of this queen of black and white Bollywood cinema coincides with Valentine's Day – the day that celebrates love. Madhubala is not only remembered today for her several movies, but the love songs captured in those days are still considered gems of the Indian movie industry.
Madhubala was at the peak of her career and popularity with the release of Mughal-e-Azam and Barsaat Ki Raat in 1960. She met Kishore Kumar at the shooting spot of Dhake Ki Malmal. When she was ill in the late 1950s with congenital heart disease, Kishore Kumar proposed her and she agreed to marry him after realizing Dilip Kumar was not ready to marry her. Despite they had a Hindu ceremony to accomplish the marriage, she was never truly accepted by his family as his wife.
Most of her films premiered during the 1960s were marred by her absence due to illness during filming and subsequent lack of completion. Jwala was her last released movie in 1971 after two years of her death.
