The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has raised alarm over the escalating violence in Lebanon, warning that the intensifying conflict is taking a devastating toll on children and forcing hundreds of thousands of families from their homes.

According to the latest reports, at least 83 children have been killed and 254 injured since 2 March as hostilities intensified across the country.

Over the past week alone, the violence has claimed the lives of more than 10 children each day, with around 36 children injured daily, highlighting the severe humanitarian impact of the ongoing conflict.

Child Casualties Continue to Climb

UNICEF said the rising number of casualties reflects the growing dangers faced by children as military strikes expand across Lebanon.

Over the past 28 months, at least 329 children have reportedly been killed and 1,632 injured. In the last six days alone, the number of children killed has surged by 25 percent, bringing the total to 412 child deaths.

“These figures are staggering,” UNICEF said, warning that the toll illustrates the severe consequences of ongoing hostilities for the country’s youngest and most vulnerable.

Families Forced to Flee Their Homes

The conflict has also triggered widespread displacement across Lebanon.

Nearly 700,000 people have been forced from their homes, including approximately 200,000 children, adding to tens of thousands who were already displaced during previous escalations.

Many families are now seeking refuge in overcrowded shelters, where children are sleeping in cold conditions with limited access to basic services.

Humanitarian agencies warn that prolonged displacement is increasing the risk of health crises, interrupted education, and psychological trauma for children.

Call to Protect Civilians

UNICEF has called on all parties involved in the conflict to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, and shelters.

The agency stressed that all sides must respect international humanitarian law, which requires the protection of civilians during armed conflict.

Urgent Appeal for De-escalation

With the humanitarian situation deteriorating rapidly, UNICEF is urging immediate efforts to de-escalate the violence and prevent further harm to children.

“Children are being killed and injured at a horrifying rate,” the organization warned, emphasizing that urgent action is needed to stop the suffering and protect families caught in the conflict.

Humanitarian organizations say sustained diplomatic efforts and humanitarian access will be critical to ensuring life-saving support reaches affected communities across Lebanon.
