Ethiopia and Eritrea aim to ease tensions by recalling border troops

ADDIS ABABA, Sept 11 (Reuters) - Ethiopian and Eritrean forces stationed along the countries' shared border will be moved back to camps to ease tensions, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed told reporters after opening border points with Eritrea for the first time in 20 years.

"We heralded the new year by demolishing the trenches along our border," Abiy told reporters upon return to Addis Ababa.

"As of today, Ethiopia's defense forces (along with the border with Eritrea) will be gathered to camps and ease the tension that was often extreme. The same will be done from the Eritrean side."
